Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people on the Carolina coast of America who at this very minute are being battered by 90 mile an hour winds and prolonged rain. The news tells us that as yet there are no reports of human casualties but we fear for the future of small businesses and traders who rely on power, transport and communications.

Where else but in Hurricane, a small town in West Virginia, The Mayor stepped in to rescue a wedding.  As the storm threatened to wash away months of planning, Mayor Scott Edwards offered his city hall for the ceremony. Marsha Bradbury and Jon Gillenwater plan to be wed “in Hurricane during the hurricane” on Sunday.

As the UK is set to bask in 23 degrees this Sunday let's all be grateful for what we have got. And like the Mayor, why not help someone in need this weekend.

Offices are like little villages, filled with people of all shapes and sizes whose personalities create a bountiful sense of community with a vibrant atmosphere. That’s what makes the communities within them so diverse and interesting. But the dreaded office jargon that circulates each company like a bad cold can irritate...

‘Management speak’, like ‘thinking outside the box' was voted the most annoying overused term, followed by ‘going forward’ and then by ‘let’s touch base’.

Is jargon holding British businesses back? This style of office language can act as a barrier when securing new business by isolating new starters, who feel they should have to learn the lingo to integrate successfully into their new community. In addition, the jargon can occasionally seep into marketing materials thus damaging a brand’s integrity.

Every community needs a leader to instigate change, so take charge within your team to make the change and banish pointless office jargon – say what you mean and mean what you say!

What’s your most hated office phrase? Let’s touch base and discuss ;)

We’re almost two weeks in to the heatwave now and it doesn’t look like the sunshine is going anywhere soon. During the day temperatures have barely dropped below 25 degrees, giving us plenty of excuses to grab a drink, enjoy the sun and watch the World Cup.

Of course we’ve all been watching the England matches eagerly – even those of us who don’t usually take much of an interest in football have rallied for the World Cup – and England certainly haven’t disappointed! With Tuesday’s ridiculously tense game against Colombia, we’re not sure we can handle another nail-biting match, but none-the-less we’ll be watching the match n Saturday and cheering on the lads!

Enjoy the weekend whatever you’re up to and if we can help with any temporary cover over the summer or if you’re in search for a permanent position please don’t hesitate to contact us, we’ve got lots of exciting new roles coming in!
